Part-Time Position

About the Role:

St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Mesquite, TX is seeking a passionate, creative, and relational Director of Student Ministry to lead students in grades 7–12. This part-time role focuses on helping students grow in faith, build authentic community, and discover their God- given gifts through worship, service, and discipleship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Student Programming:

    • Plan and direct weekly Sunday and weekday gatherings, retreats, mission trips, and special events for 7th–12th graders. Develop engaging teaching and worship experiences in collaboration with the Pastor.

  • Develop Leaders and Volunteers:

    • Recruit, train, and empower volunteers to serve alongside students. Mentor and equip student leaders to take active roles in worship and ministry within the church and beyond.

  • Foster Relationships with Students and Families:

    • Build meaningful connections with students and their parents through presence, communication, and shared ministry experiences. Partner with parents to support faith development at home and celebrate key milestones like Confirmation and Graduation.

  • Collaborate Across Ministries:

    • Work with Senior Pastor, Director of Children and Discipleship Committee to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all children, youth, and families.

    • Participate in all-church events such as Vacation Bible School, summer camps, and community celebrations.

  • Communicate and Create:

    • Produce timely updates and engaging media to connect with students throughout the week. Contribute to the monthly Church Newsletter and help design graphics for events and programs.

    • Steward Resources Wisely:Partner with church leadership and Finance Committee to manage the student ministry budget and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications:

  • A heart for ministry with students and families

  • Have a Progressive United Methodist theology

  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills

  • Experience working with youth or in youth ministry (volunteer or professional)

  • Ability to teach, inspire, and collaborate within a team

  • Proficiency in digital communication and social media

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Schedule: Sundays and Wednesdays (some weekends required for events)

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience
