Gear Up for PRIDE!

This year's PRIDE Parade and Festival are only a week away! Social Justice Chair Teddi Fulenwider shares the following:

St. Stephen will have a booth in the Family Zone at the Pride Parade this year. This is a separate, roped-off area just for families to come and play and browse the booths.  It is also a great place to showcase St. Stephen  and all the things we have to offer families. This might also be a fun opportunity for some of our youths. Remember we want to attract more families. There will be games to play; we will have bean bag toss with some type of prizes.

Please consider working a 2-hour shift at the Family Zone booth. All you do is sit and say hi and answer questions about St. Stephen. Oh, you also might say, "Would you like to play bean bag toss?" You meet some of the nicest people.

We also will work the combined booth with the North Texas Reconciling Churches. You get a free shirt to wear in this booth. It is orange with the Reconciling logo on the back and our name on the front. All the churches will have a different color shirt so that when we stand together we make a rainbow.

You can ride, walk, crawl in the parade and still help out in one of the booths. You can attend church that morning and still volunteer in the booth. Please consider this opportunity.  Let me know so I can get you a wristband to enter the festival.

Why United Methodist Women?

Why, in this American society in which women are working actively toward equality in all walks of life, do we still need an organization such as United Methodist Women?

The answer is simple: To guide women along their faith journey, and to improve the lives of women, youths and children around the world, following the example of Jesus Christ.

"Why United Methodist Women?" will kick off the fall schedule for St. Stephen UMC's fledgling UMW unit meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7 at church. President Shirley Feldhaus will lead a devotional from "Psalms for Women." Newly appointed vice president for program, Cynthia Astle, will give a brief introduction to the nature and mission of United Methodist Women.

And with luck, the new UMW program books will be here, thanks to some extra effort by our church administrative assistant, Paula Humphreys. (Hooray for Paula!) Cost of each book is $11.25, and cash or checks made out to St. Stephen UMC, with "UMW Book" on the memo line, will be accepted.

Please bring a dish to share for luncheon and stay for the discussion. We anticipate a lively session!
